He Who Speaks the Loudest Gets Heard, But The Silent One Has the Most to Say
I was reminded of this in the car yesterday as we were driving with the dogs to the farm. I have been officially separated from my partner Dan for nearly a week now, even though we still live together, we are headed apart. On the way I listened to him speak about his music and how he plans to make demo tracks and the details of the people he will give it to and the specifics about where he use to stand when he was in the dj scene. I always listen and don’t interrupt him. I ask him questions. That is the art of communication. But, some people just don’t understand that to communicate you must also STOP talking and LISTEN. After nearly 50 minutes I started to speak and he ‘shushed’ me. I only got a word in because he pulled up to stop. I am so done with being told to shut up and not being heard. It is the reason my relationship with him is ending. One very big reason, any way. There are more but this one really hurts me.
I can’t help but think of American politics. Not only America, but everywhere really. Imagine what it could be like if some of the quiet, thinkers, could have input into the leadership of the country. Is it ever going to happen?
I dare you to ask a quiet person what they are thinking the next time a room is full of blazing opinions.
